At M Squared Puzzles, every wooden jigsaw puzzle is a one-of-a-kind creation, individually cut by hand. No templates, no predetermined patterns — just the artwork, a scroll saw, and the creative decisions made with every turn of the blade. The result is a puzzle that's as enjoyable to explore as it is to solve.
The Story Behind M Squared Puzzles
My journey into creating handcrafted wooden jigsaw puzzles began long before I ever picked up a scroll saw.
Some of my earliest memories are of sitting with my family, working together to assemble the cardboard jigsaw puzzles so many of us grew up with. Years later, as a parent, I watched my own children discover those same puzzles, often encouraging them to “turn the piece and try again.” Somewhere along the way, I had almost forgotten how much I enjoyed the simple satisfaction of placing that last piece.
Fast forward more than 40 years, and a little exploring on the internet introduced me to the fascinating world of hand-cut wooden jigsaw puzzles. These were nothing like the familiar cardboard puzzles with their predictable rows and columns. The pieces had unusual shapes, intricate cuts, and sometimes even recognizable objects hidden among them. I was hooked.
I wanted to learn more, and eventually I decided to try making my own.
Today, every puzzle at M Squared Puzzles is individually cut by hand in my workshop in Sharpsburg, Georgia. I don't use cutting patterns or lasers. Instead, I let the artwork guide me, making decisions as I cut to create a puzzle that is both beautiful and enjoyable to solve.
Each puzzle is unique, and no two are ever quite alike. What began as a fascination with wooden puzzles has become a creative pursuit that I genuinely enjoy, and I'm delighted to share the results with fellow puzzle enthusiasts.
The Art of Hand-Cutting
Every puzzle begins with an image that inspires me. As I guide the wood through my scroll saw, each cut is made freehand, without a predetermined pattern. Sometimes the artwork suggests the direction of a cut; other times, I consider how a particular shape will affect the person assembling the puzzle. It's a creative process where no two puzzles — or even two pieces — are exactly alike.
Every curve, twist, and unexpected shape is cut freehand — creating pieces as unique as the puzzle itself.
